The Class 480 is originally meant to replace the ageing rail cars in West Berlin but the remaining orders were cancelled when it was replaced by DBAG Class 481 in 1993. ==History== The Class 480 was commissioned by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR), acquired multiple units of the Class 475 in 1984 and these were old and outdated. There is a cab, creating a deal with the flexibility of having two multiple units together, called Class 480 instead of "Triebwagen" and "Beiwagen" trains. Four prototypes were delivered in 1986. Additional trains were ordered in order to cope with the five additional sections to be reopened after 1989, increasing the West Berlin's S-Bahn total kilometrage to 117km. As a result of the disruption of the Nord-Süd Tunnel in August 2004, the later trains were burned and the class 480 were removed from S1, S2 and S25, essentially already deployed Class 481 into the service. These trains were redeployed to other lines such as S41, S42, S45 and S8.
